Iconic Adelaide Walking Tour

Tour Summary

Experience the heart and heritage of South Australia’s capital on the Iconic Adelaide Walking Tour—a relaxed, three-hour exploration of the city’s most celebrated landmarks, cultural icons, and hidden secrets. Guided by a passionate local, this intimate walking tour reveals the rich history, proud achievements, and evolving character that define Adelaide.

Starting in the city centre, you’ll wander through the northern half of Adelaide, visiting areas such as the North Terrace Cultural Precinct, the Adelaide Riverbank, and the Adelaide Town Hall. Along the way, your guide will bring the city’s iconic buildings, figures, and achievements to life. Learn about the influential leaders like Don Dunstan, whose progressive policies helped shape modern Adelaide, and discover how the city’s reputation for innovation, activism, and creativity came to be.

This small-group tour (with an average of just four people) ensures a relaxed and personal experience, allowing plenty of time to ask questions, take photos, and soak in the atmosphere. As you explore, you’ll uncover stories hidden in plain sight—heritage monuments, groundbreaking moments, and pockets of the city that even many locals don’t fully appreciate.

The Iconic Adelaide Walking Tour not only highlights Adelaide’s historic firsts and proud traditions but also shows how the city continues to evolve. From its early days as a free-settled colony known as the “City of Churches” to its modern role as a thriving hub for the arts, education, and innovation, this tour paints a complete picture of Adelaide’s dynamic spirit.

With opportunities to rest, refresh, and truly enjoy the journey, the walk is designed for comfort and deeper connection—not rushed sightseeing. It’s a perfect way to gain a meaningful understanding of the city’s past, present, and future, whether you’re visiting for the first time or rediscovering Adelaide through new eyes.

If you want to go beyond the postcards and explore the real stories behind Adelaide’s icons, the Iconic Adelaide Walking Tour is a must-do experience.

Book your spot today and walk away with a deeper appreciation for the people, places, and moments that have shaped South Australia’s vibrant capital.

Things to Consider:
  • We meet at the Mall’s Balls, one of Adelaide’s iconic landmarks! You can check this must-do off your bucket list.

  • Widely known as one of the world’s best library, the State Library of South Australia has played a key role in shaping Adelaide’s culture and education.

  • Get to know the icon Don Dunstan, a premier of South Australia in the 1970s who has made several ground-breaking reforms which left a lasting legacy.

  • This tour is a loop and ends just outside Adelaide Arcade in Rundle Mall. We highly recommend exploring more of the city, and it’s not a good bye – just a see ya later!

Great intro to the city and its food
We started the day with Lorry giving us a fantastic run down on what wines McLaren Vale had to offer. He was very knowledgeable on what the wine region had to offer and recommended places to go. Lorry also had a great sense of humour making the trip a lot more enjoyable along the way. Thanks for a fabulous time! Highly recommend!

Recommend for tourists…and locals!
Katina is a very knowledgeable and energetic tour guide with a great demeanor and communication skills. My two teens and I had a great time and learned a lot…even though we’ve been to Adelaide before. Recommend her tours to tourists of course…but also locals who would like to expand their knowledge of their home town in an easy to digest format.

Thanks for a great tour!
Kat is an excellent and enthusiastic guide. She speaks so clearly and has many interesting and amusing stories about Adelaide’s inhabitants, past and present. We loved this tour of hidden and (some more obvious) special places in the city.
