Adelaide Central Market Tour

Tour Summary

No visit to Adelaide is complete without exploring the vibrant, bustling Adelaide Central Market—and this one-hour guided tour offers the perfect introduction. Led by local guide Katina, who was born and raised in Adelaide, this small-group experience uncovers the stories, flavours, and history of one of the Southern Hemisphere’s largest and oldest covered food markets.

The Adelaide Central Market Tour takes you on a relaxed, flavour-packed walk through a precinct that’s been feeding the city for more than 150 years. With over 70 traders under one roof, the market is a feast for the senses—from the smell of freshly baked bread and roasting coffee to the colourful displays of seasonal produce and gourmet goods. But beyond the stalls lies a rich and fascinating story.

As you explore, Katina will introduce you to some of the oldest and most beloved stalls, share how the market came to life in the 19th century, and offer personal insights into Adelaide’s evolving food culture. You’ll sample delicious local delicacies, from artisan cheeses and nuts to pastries or cured meats—each selected to reflect the market’s seasonal highlights and multicultural influences.

Adelaide is often called the City of Churches or affectionately “Radelaide,” but what truly sets it apart is its thriving food scene. This tour reveals why Adelaide deserves the title of City of Food, and the market is its beating heart.

With a maximum group size of 10 people (average just four), the tour is designed to be intimate and engaging—perfect for foodies, first-time visitors, or anyone curious about Adelaide’s culinary roots. Plus, you’ll walk away with exclusive stallholder discounts, a list of the places you visited, and all the inspiration you need to shop like a local.

Whether you’re starting your trip or looking to go deeper into Adelaide’s culture, this Adelaide Central Market Tour is a must-do experience that will leave your tastebuds happy and your tote bags full.

Book now and taste what makes Adelaide a true food capital of Australia—one bite, story, and market stall at a time.

Things to Consider:
  • We begin the journey back in time to the legendary Blackeby’s (The Old Lolly Shop). This is the oldest remaining stall in the Adelaide Central Market.

  • Kangaroo Island boasts some of the best produce that South Australia has to offer! Get a sample taste before considering your purchase options.

  • Not mentioned enough, but Adelaide is also a vibrant melting pot of different cultures – and the Central Market is a prime example of that. Check out different delicacies from other international community such as Latin cuisine.

Fantastic Market History.
Katina was such an Informative guide, we saw and heard heaps of information about the History of the Adelaide Markets. History of the Shops like the Lollie shop and generations of family that started it and kept it open. About the Mushroom Man and Delicious Cheese and Wine Stores and Delicious Milks. Incredible information on when it first opened. Katinas Grandparents had a fruit shop there, so she knew a lot of History. Amazing!!! Thank You Katina Thoroughly Enjoyable

This was one of the best hours that we spent in Adelaide. Katina is well versed in the history of the Market and many of the vendors. I highly recommend it as it also gives visitors up close exposure to the kindness and friendliness of the people who work there.

Fantastic tour of the Adelaide market
I was looking for a tour in the Central Market but most places only took bookings for at least two people. Travelling solo that wasn't an option for me but Katina had no problem at all which basically gave me a solo tour! Her knowledge and perfect connection to the market is incredible, the bits and pieces to try were delicious and the coupons for some discounts after the tour came in handy as well. All in all a great experience that I would definitely recommend!

Great walking tour with Kat
We loved this! We could have just walked through the market on our own but we would have missed out on all the tasty samples, as well as our Kats stories and local insights. Wow, the produce on offer at the markets was amazing, such a range and good quality too.
